The ALEKS system is based on extensive theoretical
research in `Knowledge Space Theory' by Jean-Claude Falmagne at the
University of California, Irvine (UCI), Jean-Paul Doignon at the University
of Brussels, and several other scientists, many of whom are located
in European Universities. ALEKS stands for `Assessment and LEarning
Knowledge Spaces.'

Learning Mode

At the conclusion of the assessment, ALEKS knows the
student's knowledge-state. On the basis of this knowledge state, the
system infers the concepts that the student is ready to learn. These
new concepts are listed in the report, and the learning mode is initiated.

Learning is organized around problems to be solved.
